Verizon cell phone swithc out?

I have a Verizon line on a family plan. Having recently gone to Sprint on my own line I wanna have my dad shut off the family line. However due to the contract he won't pay to shut it off and will have the line suspended. I have an env touch and although the screen is pretty scratched they need a phone. Could I buy say a Verizon pre paid phone and have it added as a replacement so I can pull the touch so my friend can use it? They want the phone and I don't need it but it has to have a clear esn. Someone told me at Verizon when my one phone broke I could have gotten a pre paid one to use...any answers...if not ill just buy a used phone and do that
