What jackets go with jeans?

I think a sports jacket is more similar to a letterman's jacket, whereas a suit jacket is like the one in the link. However, a Google image search seems to indicate that this interpretation is too narrow, so maybe sports jacket is a broader term, or maybe it refers to a jacket that does not come in a set with matching pants. Anyway, I find that almost any jacket will go with a pair of medium-colored to dark blue jeans.
